Until now, buying electricity from a retail supplier mostly meant picking one of two doors: lock everything, or float everything.
Fixed all-in gives you budget certainty and charges you a risk premium for it. Full index gives you market pricing and hands you the risk. Both are honest products. But most C&I loads don’t actually fit either one cleanly.
So we built the middle. Six new supply structures are live today for commercial and industrial customers and the brokers who serve them.
Now available: Fixed with DASI Adjustable · DASI Passthrough · DASI + Capacity Passthrough · Block & Index · Winter Flex · 100% MA Class I REC supply. All quotable today, alongside our existing Fixed All-In and Full Passthrough products.
The DASI Problem, and Three Products That Solve It Differently
Quick background. ISO-NE’s Day-Ahead Ancillary Services Initiative (DASI) launched in March 2025 with a $140 million annual cost estimate. Through this spring it’s run roughly $1.2 billion. That cost lands on suppliers and index customers, and it’s the single biggest pricing wildcard in New England supply right now.
Every supplier has to put DASI somewhere. We now give you three choices about where.
Fixed with DASI Adjustable
Your energy price is locked. The DASI component adjusts to actual charges. You skip the fat risk premium a supplier has to bake into a fully fixed price to cover a cost nobody can predict, and you keep certainty on the piece of the bill that’s actually hedgeable. If DASI reform at FERC cuts these costs next year, you get the savings instead of your supplier keeping the cushion.
DASI Passthrough
Fixed energy, DASI billed at cost. No markup, no cushion, full transparency. Built for buyers who’d rather see the real number than pay someone to guess it.
DASI + Capacity Passthrough
Same idea, extended to capacity. This one matters for term deals: ISO-NE’s new prompt capacity auction means nobody can responsibly fix capacity past May 31, 2028. Most suppliers handle that with a reopener clause. This product doesn’t need one, because capacity was never fixed in the first place. If you want a 36- or 48-month deal without a mid-contract renegotiation, this is the structure.
Block & Index: The Partial Hedge
Lock a fixed block for the load you know is coming. Float the rest on index. You choose the ratio.
It’s the standard structure for accounts with steady base load and variable peaks, and for buyers who want to layer in hedges over time instead of picking one day to bet the whole budget on. Now live at Gridwealth.
Winter Flex: Hedge the Season That Actually Hurts
New England power risk isn’t spread evenly across the year. It’s concentrated in roughly 90 days. Last January alone, DASI charges hit $185 million, and winter defaults routinely run 5 to 10 cents above summer.
Winter Flex fixes your base year-round and gives you flexibility on the winter strip, so you’re not paying January risk premiums on your July load. Best for accounts whose exposure is mostly a heating-season story.
100% MA Class I REC Supply: Compliance-Grade Green
Fixed supply bundled with Massachusetts Class I RECs, the certificate class that counts for BERDO compliance in Boston.
That timing matters. BERDO reporting is due August 15, and buildings over their emissions caps face an alternative compliance payment of $234 per metric ton. MA Class I RECs currently trade around $38 to $42. For most buildings, REC-backed supply is the cheapest compliant path, and it doubles as the answer to any ESG mandate.
Which One Fits?
| If you want… | The product |
|---|---|
| Maximum certainty, no moving parts | Fixed All-In |
| Certainty minus the DASI risk premium | Fixed with DASI Adjustable |
| At-cost transparency on ancillaries | DASI Passthrough |
| A long-term deal with no capacity reopener | DASI + Capacity Passthrough |
| To hedge in layers, on your schedule | Block & Index |
| Winter-heavy load, summer-light budget | Winter Flex |
| BERDO compliance or an ESG mandate | 100% MA Class I REC |
| Full market exposure, eyes open | Full Passthrough / Variable |
Brokers: every one of these is quotable now. Your Gridwealth representative can run a customer’s interval data against the full lineup and show which structure would have won over the last 12 months. That’s a renewal conversation nobody else in your inbox is offering.
